Teach Yourself To Play Guitar does exactly as the title might suggest. It provides you with a software based method of teaching yourself the guitar in easy to follow steps. The application tries to take the tedium out of learning to play so that you stay motivated and progress quickly.
The software is available for both Mac and Windows based computers and installs easily with no problems. It is ideal for complete beginner guitarists as the lessons start right from the first steps you need to take to begin learning the guitar. It's also not hard to figure out how to work it so you don't need to be a computer expert to start learning.
The lessons are based around video tutorials backed up by different pieces of guitar tablature that you can learn to play. The software will teach you how to read the tab and will play it back so that you can hear how a piece should sound. You can also slow down the playback at any time if you are finding a particular section difficult to learn. The lessons are well structured and easy to follow but they don't go into any great depth on any subject. Beginners will like this but if you are looking to become an advanced guitarist you will end up having to buy another course to improve your skills.

These really are very simple and you probably won't find yourself spending much time with them, but they may appeal to children learning the guitar.
