Tab Guitar Lessons is an online resource which provides a selection of useful tools and information to help you learn to play the guitar. It is not so much a structured course but a gathering of a lot of information in one place which you will have to pick through to find the parts useful for what you want to learn.
Tab Guitar Lessons builds itself around the free fretboard learning software that they offer and you are encouraged to sign up to the members area to support its development. The software itself is actually the best part of what Tab Guitar Lessons offers; it will help you to learn the positions of notes on the fretboard and how to build chords around them. The claim that you can learn the entire fretboard in 60 minutes is clearly an exaggeration, but with some effort this is a useful aid.
The rest of the content offered by Tab Guitar Lessons is useful, but too unstructured for an absolute beginner to use effectively. There is a bundle of lessons that cover a variety of different subjects related to guitar playing, but they don't form a comprehensive course. The other main part of the membership section is a huge library of 55,000 guitar tabs. These are all tabs that are freely available on the internet if you hunt around, but it is useful to have them all in one place so that you can find almost any popular song you can think of. As added extras you also get software which helps you to train your ear by playing random notes which you must name, an application to tune your guitar and a drum loop machine to use to improve your timing.
At $14.95 a subscription to the members section at Tab Guitar Lessons won't break the bank, but it doesn't provide much that you can't find on the internet if you look hard enough. That said, it is useful to have everything in one place and you can feel good about yourself that you are rewarding their efforts for developing the free software.
