Pro Guitar Tips is a set of e-book and audio lessons which promise to teach you the basics of playing guitar and have you playing your favourite songs quickly. It is an ideal course for beginners as it takes you right from the first steps toward buying a guitar to learning how to read guitar tablature so that you can learn popular songs.
Pro Guitar Tips is taught by a professional rock guitarist who has played on number one albums by Pete Murray - an artist some people may have heard of. He is also a degree qualified music teacher and so should know what he is talking about. However, the standard of the lessons doesn't seem to show off the many years of guitar playing experience this teacher has had. The lessons are lacking in content and we didn't think the teaching style was very easy to follow for a beginner.
The lessons come in the form of an e-book which is supplemented by a library of audio samples to let you hear how the riffs and exercises you are playing should sound. They are presented quite clearly and there are some good quality photos to show you chord positions and how to hold the guitar etc. The samples are also quite good quality and recorded from a real guitar rather than being MIDI samples as are included in a lot of courses.
With Pro Guitar Tips you also get some free bonus e-books which cover a variety of other topics related to playing guitar. These are mainly concerned with home recording and getting different sounds from your electric guitar using effects pedals, but also provide some advice on song writing and starting a band. While these might not seem useful at first, as you progress as a guitarist you might find yourself dipping into them for help.
Given that Pro Guitar Tips is available for only $17 it is a worthwhile purchase for beginner guitarists. It doesn't cover quite as much as some other courses, but will get you off to a cheap start playing guitar. After that you might want to consider one of the other courses in this category to improve your skills and progress your guitar playing.
