Guitar Tutor Pro is an e-book based guitar course that will lead you from the basics right through to advanced playing techniques. It is useful for beginner to intermediate guitarists who want to improve their playing through a series of structured lessons while learning some essential music theory along the way.
The Guitar Tutor Pro course covers everything from the very basics of holding the guitar to learning complex rhythms and scales. The lessons in the 3 main e-books are supplemented by over 400 audio samples to let you hear what pieces should sound like and 300 exercises to help you practise what you learn. The lessons are pretty well structured and provide a lot of information on the techniques you are learning as well as covering some basic music theory about why they work.
The course is available as an instant download from the Guitar Tutor Pro web site and comes with five extra bonus features and books comprising a software based tuner, chord dictionary and metronome application and 2 e-books covering some aspects of playing guitar in more detail. The software is a useful addition but is nothing special in terms of design or functionality. The e-books cover reading music notation, which is useful if you want to learn the guitar properly, and tuning and stringing the guitar, which is useful for absolute beginners.
Despite being fairly pushy in its sales pitch, Guitar Tutor Pro is not a bad guitar course. The website contains the usual testimonies from excited fans of the course and vastly exaggerates the value of it at $3000 - but somehow they can afford to give it away for $47.00! However, even if $3000 is a tad enthusiastic, the course contains everything you need to get started playing the guitar.
In all Guitar Tutor Pro will serve you well if you are a beginner to intermediate guitarist. It takes you beyond some of the basic techniques which absolute beginner courses teach you, but is still accessible enough for a new guitarist to pick up. In these days of cheap cameras and internet streaming some videos might have been useful, but this course contains everything you need to start learning.
