Editor's Verdict:

The sales page for GuitarTips.com.au is packed full of sensational claims about "guitar secrets" and "the hottest guitar techniques available today" that will enable you to go from a complete beginner to "mesmerizing audiences with your amazing guitar playing" in just 30 days. Logic says that getting to a level of playing that would "mesmerize" anyone should take a bit longer than that, and as usual in these matters, logic is right in this case. Reaching a pro level of guitar playing obviously takes a fair amount of hard work and dedication, so sensational claims like the ones made on GuitarTips.com.au can be a little off putting. However, we believe its our job here at no1reviews.com to look past all the hyperbole and see what the site can offer in the way of genuine content. With that in mind, Guitar Tips actually turned out to be quite a nice surprise.

The site offers access to 70 different lessons with embedded video and audio demonstrations, diagrams, pictures and detailed written descriptions. The course ranges from the raw basics to advanced lead techniques and compositional methods. The information offered is far reaching, detailed and genuinely useful.

The site is run by Chris Elmore, and while his sales pitch is a bit over the top, his written lessons offer good insight into many aspects of guitar playing. His video content isn't quite as convincing however as many of the videos on the site have slightly disappointing sound and lighting quality and Chris' on screen style isn't exactly what you'd call charismatic. In fact, the quality and format of the site as a whole is not as good as can be found elsewhere. That said, the actual content (the most important aspect), delivers the goods and provides you with more than enough information to take your playing to new found heights. All of the content on the site can be easily downloaded to your mac or PC for off line access and there are some great extras that also come with your one off purchase like a handy chord dictionary and a scale tool to help you get to grips with scales and modes.

It just goes to show, you can't judge a book by its cover, and you can't judge a guitar site by its sales page. If you're not worried about slightly lower production values, and just want access to stacks of insightful and well organized material for a great price, Guitar Tips is well worth a visit.
