Guitar Magic is a software based guitar tuition course which is useful for beginner, intermediate and advanced guitarists. It can take you right from absolute novice to advanced guitarist or will help solidify your knowledge if you already play the guitar. Using a variety of different teaching methods Guitar Magic claims it will transform your PC into a completely integrated practise workstation!
Guitar magic will install and run on your Windows based PC and provide you with access to a vast library of guitar lessons and theory. The lessons are well structured and take you through most of what you need to know to be able to play the guitar competently. There are no shortcuts/cheats here so you will learn the correct way which will make you a better guitarist in the end. We would like to have seen slightly more lesson content and less on supplementary exercises and theory, but there is still plenty to keep you busy.
The main interface in Guitar Magic is a virtual fretboard which lights up fret positions to show you the notes to play. The lessons mainly consist of some introductory comments, a few pieces of music to learn and discussion of the theory behind them. They make use of the virtual fretboard as well as the scrolling notation interface which scrolls guitar tablature or standard music notation down the screen as you play.
As well as the lessons, Guitar Magic also provides a whole host of extras which help you along your way to becoming a guitar master. There is a huge chord and scale library which you can look up at any time if you have forgotten something you have learned or want to increase your chord repertoire. A large exercise bank provides you with plenty of practise exercises to strengthen your fingers and warm up before a lesson. Finally, there is a practise scheduler tool which helps you to plan your practise sessions and what you hope to achieve in them.
Guitar Magic is a fully featured software based guitar tuition course with a lot of well thought out content and useful extra tools. However, the price tag is a whopping $289.00. Even though we think this is a good application we don't think it is worth that amount of money. You can't even try before you buy which is something we would expect before being asked to part with that much cash. If you do decide to splash out you will get a decent guitar course for your money, but be aware that there are other cheaper options out there.
