Fretboard Roadmaps is one of a series of books offering a quick way of remembering your way around the fretboard of a guitar. This book in the series aims to give you a broad understanding of the fretboard which will help you play various different styles; other books specialize on one style of playing like rock or blues.
Fretboard Roadmaps is essentially a reference book which is useful for dipping into in order to remind you of certain chord progressions or scales. The book covers all the well known patterns which allow you to play all over the guitar neck regardless of which key you are in. Intermediate to advanced guitarists will probably be familiar with most of the content - like pentatonic boxes and movable barre chords - but beginner guitarists will appreciate the easy to remember diagrams.
Fretboard Roadmaps is a fairly thin book which is handy for sticking in your guitar case as you go to practise somewhere. It will come in handy if you can't quite remember a chord or scale and need a quick reminder on how to play it. The large diagrams and nicely spaced out guitar tablature are perfect if you have the book open in front of you as you are playing.
There is not much content to the book, but this reflects the very low price tag. However, it does serve as a useful reference and contains most of the patterns and progressions that new guitarists are likely to forget. Also, although the book is aimed at beginner to intermediate guitarists, it is not a useful purchase for someone first setting out to play guitar as it assumes basic knowledge of how to play the instrument.
If you are looking for a handy reference book to carry around with you, or if you have not come across the patterns and chords in this book before, you will find it a very useful purchase. However, most of the content will be found in other beginner guitar courses so anyone who has worked through one will be familiar with it. That said, it is clearly laid out and easy to read so is a good choice if this is the sort of thing you are looking for.
