D'Accord Guitar Method is a multimedia course designed for beginners who have never picked up a guitar before. Using its methods it won't be long before you are playing along to some of your favourite songs with an understanding of how they were put together.
This course is multimedia based and you will need a PC to run it on. It is very easy to set up though and runs straight from the box - or download if you choose to get it that way. The course covers everything you need to know to begin playing the guitar and to learn some musical theory along the way. It is possible to get right into learning songs - by some popular artists like Radiohead and REM - but you will get more from the course if you put the effort into learning the theory behind what you are doing.
The course material is all very well designed and leads you between lessons easily and simply. Most of the lessons are accompanied by nicely drawn diagrams which help you to learn where to put your hands or where certain notes are on the guitar neck. The lessons take you as quickly as possible to learning your first song by teaching you some basic chords and strumming techniques. Occasionally it feels like some parts are rushed through though and it may have been better if more time was spent going over certain parts in more depth.
D'Accord Guitar Method focuses mainly on acoustic guitar techniques and most of the samples you will hear are played on an acoustic guitar. This means it's probably not the best choice for any Ozzy Osbourne wannabes out there. However, you do get to learn styles such as Bossa Nova and Samba which other guitar courses often miss out.
The main problem we had with D'Accord Guitar Method was that there was not quite enough content to justify the price tag in our opinion. Some of the content feels rushed and there aren't all that many full songs to learn to play in the end. Added features like the metronome do add extra value, but you probably won't use them all that much. However the content provided is well designed and useful to the beginner guitarist.
As far as multimedia based courses go, D'Accord Guitar Method is nicely presented if lacking a little in content. There are lots of these types of courses around though so it's best to try before you buy with the free download. Much of the final choice will come down to your own personal preference on how you like to learn, but D'Accord Guitar Method should certainly be in your shortlist.
